The KH-SIDC coming activities 2009 |

The MENAHRA project was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with IHRA (International Harm Reduction Association) from the mission of “Strengthening civil society’s role in delivering harm reduction services in the Middle East and North Africa” in June 2007. This project is funded by Drosos Foundation.
MENAHRA aims at implementing Harm Reduction strategies for IDUs in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.
Planned activities for the second year of implementation at KH-SIDC (2008-2009), include the following:
* Country visits to Bahrain, Oman, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon
* Meetings with Parliamentarians (ministers, decision makers, legislators and other key
persons)
* Organization and Implementation of 3 regional workshops:
- Writing proposals on Harm reduction projects
- Harm Reduction Policy (Human Rights/Public Health)
- Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) & Needle and Syringe Program (NSP)
* Site visit to Iran (INCAS-KH, DICs and VCT centers)
* Site visit to international Knowledge Hubs
* Provide technical support for the NAP, an NGO working on harm reduction programs in
Oman and the Dubai Police in the UAE
* Assist Lebanese NGOs in developing projects on HR
* Contribute to the elaboration of the OST protocol in Lebanon to be implemented by the
Ministry of Public Health
* KH-SIDC to serve as a Resource Center in providing IEC material and organizing
educational sessions
* Follow-up with the Media to produce articles and TV spots for advocacy on HR for the
MENA region
* Establish contacts with artists to be role models for HR
