SIDC’s mission is to meet the health needs of the youth, elderly and the most vulnerable individuals and groups in Lebanon through community empowerment. This mission stems from the belief that all individuals are equal and that every individual has the right to health and a healthy life, as well as the belief in the capabilities of communities to collectively and actively manage their problems if empowered for this responsibility.
SIDC is aware that community empowerment can only be relevant if a sense of belongingness to the community is emphasized among its members. Therefore, a human rights- based approach is applied to all programs, reaching out to the most needy and marginalized groups of the population.

In 1987, SID (initials after its French name “Service Infirmier à Domicile”) association was founded in Sin El Fil.
It started as a provider of primary health care through home based nursing care approach, which services responded to demands from all over the country. Under the inadequate conditions of the 1990 civil war, living standards became low and public health was affected. Therefore, Greater Beirut became the targeted area of emergency services.

In 1992, SID was officially registered by the decree 9/1992 Ministry of Interior Affairs.
The socio-cultural and health context of the beneficiaries became quickly very familiar to SID’s work. Thus, a needs assessment survey revealed several health problems that can be prevented through raising awareness and by community development. Consequently, the SID team elaborated several health programs, which were expanded and modified to meet the needs of the various communities that they serve.

As a result, SID became in 1992 SIDC (initials after its French name “Soins Infirmiers et Développement Communautaire”) and its programs expanded to community development programs involving health behaviors and disease prevention. A human rights- based approach was applied to all programs, reaching out for the neediest and the most marginalized groups of the population. SIDC has developed its programs to take their actual form, and to reflect its principles and beliefs in activities addressed to youth, adult and elderly population and vulnerable groups. Four main programs are currently carried out:  -  Nursing Program  -  HIV/AIDS Program  -  Drug Program  -  Youth Program

SIDC commitments today is to ensure quality services targeting not only the Lebanese territory but the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) by advocating the right of the population to have access to decent health standards.
